EPSYOs Conductor Apprentice Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras (EPSYOs) is proud to announce continuation of thier
Conductor Apprentice Program (CAP) during the 2012-2013 season. The CAP is designed to provide young musicians interested in pursuing the field of conducting the opportunity and experiences necessary to begin that journey.  The primary mentor and director of this program will be Andy Moran, the music director of the EPSYOs; however the apprentice will also interact with the musical leaders in the El Paso community and its main musical organizations. These mentors would include, but not be limited
to, EPSYOs staff conductors, EPSO artistic personnel and other professional musicians in the El Paso area.

The CAP apprentice(s) will receive regular coachings and lessons on various topics relevant to the
technique of conducting. Topics will include baton technique, score analysis, ear training, music
theory, and rehearsal management. The apprentice(s) will have the opportunity to attend rehearsals
of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and shadow Mr. Moran during preparations for EPSO
Classical Subscription Concerts to observe the conducting and rehearsal techniques of the EPSO’s
music director and guest conductors. Apprentice(s) will have the opportunity to conduct
ensembles of the EPSYOs. The culmination of the program will consist of an opportunity to
conduct one of the orchestras of the EPSYOs in performance; scheduling of this opportunity will
be made at the discretion of the CAP director.
