2017 Concerto Competition Results
GRAND PRIZE WINNER
Jonathan Lopez (clarinet) began playing the clarinet when he was 11 years old in the sixth grade and has studied privately for three and half years with Lavinia RIchards. He has been part of the TMEA and ATSSB region bands since he was in 7th grade, as well as the all-state symphonic band every year of high school. Last school-year, Jonathan was the principal clarinet of both all-region bands, the all-region orchestra, and the all-state symphonic band. He received the outstanding soloist award at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition as a sophomore. He has been named a winner of both the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra's and El Paso Wind Symphony's concerto competitions. Last summer, Jonathan participated in the Music in the Mountains Conservatory and the life-changing National Youth Orchestra 2.
EPSYO PRIZE WINNER
Isabel Castillo (violin) is a senior from Americas high School and has been playing the violin for six years. She has been a member of EPSYO for five years and has participated in the TMEA All-Region competition for the past six years. She currently studies violin with Dr. Stephen Nordstrom and plans on pursuing a career in music.
